The Thanksgiving potluck checklist
- Turkey — about 1½ lb per person, bone-in; often the host, or a ham as the second main
- Stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy
- Sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole, mac and cheese
- Cranberry sauce, rolls and butter
- A salad or roasted vegetables, for something fresh
- Pies: pumpkin, apple, pecan — about one pie for every 8 people
- Drinks, ice, and something without alcohol
- Plates, cutlery, napkins, serving spoons, foil for leftovers
Big crowd? Write a dish twice — “Mashed potatoes, mashed potatoes” — and two people can each take one.
Instead of a printable sign-up sheet
A printed sheet on the break-room wall only works for whoever walks past it, and a reply-all thread gets you three people bringing rolls. A link works from any phone: everyone sees what's taken, picks what's open, and types a name. No account, no app, nothing to print.
How it works
- 1Tap “Make the Thanksgiving list” above. The date is the Tuesday of Thanksgiving week — change it in the sentence if yours is another day.
- 2Edit the dishes, add the time if you like (“at noon”), and tap “Create link”.
- 3Send the link to the team chat, the church group or the family text.
- 4Everyone taps the dish they're bringing. The day before, one tap copies a reminder with what's still missing.
Questions
- We're hosting Thanksgiving dinner itself, on Thursday — does it work?
- Yes. In the sentence, change Tuesday’s date to Thursday’s, and the list moves to that day.
- Can two people bring the same dish?
- Write it twice. The list numbers them, and each line can be taken by one person.
- Do people need to sign up or give an email?
- No. They open the link, pick a dish and type a first name.
- Can I add a dish after I've sent it?
- Yes. The admin link you get when you create it lets you add or remove dishes and change the date — the link stays the same.
- Is it free?
- Yes. No account, no ads, no app.
